Holy Spirit, Spiritual Awareness and Spiritual Gifts
|
|||
Philip Yancey believes we are missing the supernatural hidden in everyday life. In this 2004 Christianity Today Book Award of Merit winner he investigates the natural world and discovers the supernatural hiding in plain view. Nature and super nature are not two separate worlds, but different expressions of the same reality. To encounter the world as a whole, we need a more supernatural awareness of the natural world. He promises that the grace-filled result will be a life of beauty, purpose, freedom, and faith.

Amazon reader review: In this book the two authors have gotten together to write some very profound truths and yet they have done so very simply. This book emphasizes the need for Christians to be grounded and balanced in both the scriptures and the Holy Spirit. They also talk about what it will take to get Christians to the next move of God like unity and humility. Amazon reader review: Don't be fooled by the length of this book. Within its less than 100 pages is some of the most important and weighty issues of the modern and future Christian Church. With the convergence of these two great men, a work has been produced that hopefully will open the eyes, hearts, souls, and minds of all who read it, and then encourage their friends to read it as I have. Please read this book. These are not flighty ideas to be brushed aside or swept under a rug but brought to the forefront, examined, meditated on, and then reexamined. Let the message of this book impact you and hopefully, shift your paradigm of what you perceive the future of the Christian church to be.

Amazon reader review: This is one of most excellent and complete studies I've ever seen or used for studying the Holy Spirit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Kenneth Hagin provides many years of his experiences with God and the Holy Spirit. This book will answer your questions concerning the ministry and gifts of the Holy Spirit from a Biblical and experiential standpoint.

Amazon reader review: Being in the ministry for over 30 years, I certainly have heard many a person cry out to God for leading in their lives. Rev Hagin has listened to this cry and written a work that will touch your spirit with the understanding of being led by the Spirit of God. Written in a simple way, the reader is able to understand the flow that can be accomplished between themselves and their Creator as Rev Hagin gently shares ways to open up to God's Spirit. If you have been seeking a closer walk with the Spirit of God and you are not sure how to go about achieving this, you will find this book helpful. I truly recommend it for all those that seek His Spirit and His leading.

What caused a former Dallas Seminary professor to believe that the miraculous gifts of the Holy Spirit are being given today? What convinced someone skeptical about miracles that God still speaks and heals? A dramatic change took place in Jack Deere's life when he took a fresh look at the Scriptures. He discovered that his arguments against miraculous gifts were based more on prejudice and lack of personal experience than on the Bible. As soon as Deere became a seeker instead of a skeptic, the Holy Spirit revealed himself in new and surprising ways. In Surprised by the Power of the Spirit, Deere provides a strong biblical defense for the Spirit's speaking and healing ministries today. He also describes several reliable cases of people who were miraculously healed or who heard God speak in an unmistakable way. Finally, he gives sound advice for using spiritual gifts in the church. Written in a popular style, with the care of a scholar but the passion of personal experience, this book explores: the real reason Christians do not believe in miraculous gifts, responding to charismatic abuses, whether miracles were meant to be temporary, and why God still heals.

Here is a little further perspective on
this book; Jack Deere is a former cessastionist scholar who encountered
God in a dramatic way and was mentored by John Wimber and Paul Cain.
I've read all or part of several other books on the prophetic, but this
one is special because of its Spirit:

Amazon reader review: This book is enormously helpful. At first I sort of cringed and considered Mike Bickle to be hyper-analytical about the whole "prophecy thing." But after completing the book and coming to understand the extraordinary outpouring of the gift of prophecy at his church, I found his viewpoint and "hyper-analytical" approach to be a great gift and a crucial tool for keeping the proper focus (on the Creator) at his Kansas City church. What a blessing it is for others to have this very practical guidebook. For those who are "new" to the prophecy gift, I recommend Jack Deere's "Surprised by the Voice of God" for a more "passionate" picture. Then Bickle's book makes for a very nice and helpful "follow up" guide.
