God’s Generals, Why they Succeeded and Why some failed

God's Generals details the lives of prominent men and women from the Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement from the early 1900's until the mid 1900's. Liardon gives both the good and the bad from the lives of those whom were key in spreading the charismatic movement from a handful in 1906 to the largest evangelical movement in history.

God's Generals II: The Roaring Reformers

Amazon reader review: I loved every bit of this book. Growing up I dreaded the long monotone teachers and memorizing the dates & the timelines in my history classes. After having a great history teacher in college I have grown to love history! It is now a hobby of sorts for me. And in this book you can see the lives of these men from a different angle than you find in most history books. I found their lives were relatable and I was encouraged by their trials and their accomplishments!

John G. Lake The complete collection of His Life Teachings

Amazon reader review: John Lake's teaching will hit you between the eyes. It will also seriously challenge our modern day church thinking, particularly on the topic of healing. If one should be judged by their fruit then it would be hard to argue against Lake's teaching. Testimony after testimony of God's power through Lake's ministry has caused faith to rise in me. Don't think that this book is outdated because it was written in the early 1900s. His teaching is some of the most profound I have heard. Lake makes the joy and victory of true Christian living completely accessible. We truly can do ANYTHING through Christ - read it!

Smith Wigglesworth: The Complete Collection of His Life Teachings

Amazon reader review: This is a huge book. This book is said to contain the complete lifetime teachings of British evangelist Smith Wigglesworth. It is a gem, a treasure, a vast storehouse of Holy Ghost wisdom and glory. Just reading the words of Wigglesworth is enough to give you an idea of what kind of anointing this man of God had.

I've heard stories of Wigglesworth meetings back in the 20's and 30's where the power of God would fall so heavily that clergymen and pastors would fall out of their chairs when Smith prayed. There is an account of Wigglesworth raising a man from the dead, embalmed and in a casket at a funeral home. When someone like that preaches Jesus and has a teaching from the Word of God, you can bet I want to listen! This book is full of his teachings.

Obviously, the teachings are deep and center around complete surrender to the Holy Ghost. Brokeness and holiness are two other factors continually mentioned. The more you read this stuff, the more you realize just how infatuated, possessed, and full of faith this simple man was. He was totally unschooled growing up, not learning how to read until he was in his late 20's! The only book he ever read was the Bible. He drove out demons in the name of Jesus of Nazareth, healed the sick, raised the dead, spoke in tongues, opened blind eyes, unstopped deaf ears. He was a real, modern apostle (and without going to seminary school). This is how God would like to use all of us, but like Smith Wigglesworth would always say, "There is a great price to pay..."

Wigglesworth took God blindly at His Word. No wonder he is now known as the "Apostle of Faith" -- and the great pioneer of the pentecostal faith. Buy the book (it is really for mature Christians) and read the messages slowly. And do some research on his life; it is really fascinating to read how this guy lived the book of Acts. He even raised his wife from the dead (but let her go back when she said Jesus was calling her). This stuff is really too deep for the average Christian to digest fully (especially for those primarily fed from Newsboys songs and Michael W. Smith worship). This is a whole other level of serving God. Can you handle it?
