Hillsong

Vol. #1

Blessed (Sept. 2002)

Amazon reader review: The folks at Hillsong know what they're doing. Blessed is a great album-I bought it a few weeks before I got to go see Darlene and her team do the worship service at a church in Toronto. Let me tell you, "Magnificent" is absolutely the most beautiful song on the album, and performed live, you feel like you're in heaven, worshipping with the angels. A little more rock than their other albums but one of my favorites of all time.

By Your Side: Live Worship (Sept. 2002)

Amazon reader review: WOW. They have done it again. Well done to the team. Hillsong brings Christian music a new name while still praising God. this album brought me so close to God during "soaking" sessions. play the music, get the lyrics and just praise god wherever.

For All You've Done (Sept. 2004)

Amazon reader review: What a phenomenal gift they possess in Sydney, Australia! The Bible says to sing to the Lord a new song and they definitely do. Did you know they introduce an average of 35 news songs a year to their congregation! Talk about being good stewards of the gifts God has given! No wonder their worship ministry is world renown!

Some of my favorite "slow" tracks are "With All I am", Sing "(Your Love)", "Hallelujah" - this one is so powerful even after 9 minutes, I didn't want it to be over :) - "You are Worthy", and "More Than Life". Actually trying to pick a favorite at this point is silly because I love them all so much.

For This Cause (Sept. 2002)

Amazon reader review: It's fitting that on the heels of the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney the most prominent worship leader from Australia has released a live album that was recorded at the very stadium where the games were held. While For This Cause contains the flavor of big sounding live-stadium projects, the recording is so clean, distinct and precise that if it wasn't for the cheering crowd that underlies each track, these 14 songs could pass for studio quality.

And while Zschech's name is on the CD, this is anything but a solo show. In fact, there's nary a minute or two where Zschech sings alone. From the galloping, frenetic electric guitar that kicks off opener "One Day" to the subdued, slightly minor-key acoustic arrangement of "Everyday" that closes the CD, this album is dominated by a large contingent of voices and musicians from Zschech's home church, Hills Christian Life Centre in Sydney.

One of the album's prettiest songs is "Dwell in Your House," which features a finger-picked acoustic guitar pattern reminiscent of Extreme's 1991 radio hit, "More Than Words." Again, it's not anchored by Zschech singing alone, but by several vocalists sharing the leads and harmonies.

The remaining songs are decent enough-and especially so for choirs who want to hear how Zschech's worship team does it-but the vocals and melodies sound fairly homogenous after awhile (same voices, same inflections, same pacing). While there's some variety with songs like "Faith," with its south-of-the-border horns and a decidedly salsa-meets-disco flavor, overall the sense of sameness tends to pervade as the album wears on.

Hope (Sept. 2003)

Amazon reader review: Hope is the newest live worship album from Hillsong Australia. (Hillsong not Hillsong*s*) It opens up new doors to the throne room of God and deeper levels of worship. While Hope is not very upbeat and high energy at all in comparison to Blessed it is still awesome worship, not to be missed. The worship is very dynamic from soft, still cries of worship to huge anthem shouts! There are a few fast upbeat praise songs on here but this album focusses mainly on heartfelt worship and Hope in Jesus Christ. Our Hope in this dark world we are in. The title track Hope is arguably the best worship song on the album, I believe on par with her first song that made her famous, Shout To The Lord. You have to hear it to know what I'm talking about. This newest album is a must have from Hillsong, so is the DVD. While I was dissapointed at first that it wasn't high energy like Blessed, I soon put that issue behind me and let the presence of God consume me. This is a wonderful album. God is all over this. I never thought Blessed could be topped and it was. For those of you who didn't like the repetivness on Blessed don't worry, almost every song has 2 or 3 verses. It's an awesome album, buy it, and let it minister to you and put your Hope in the name of the Lord.

Shout God's Fame - London (June 2004)

Amazon reader review: The new album from Hillsong Church London, a growing congregation of around 2000 people that was planted as a UK outreach by the Australian church, combines two musical heritages for the first time - the UK worship movement and the Hillsong Music heritage.

SHOUT GOD'S FAME, then, stands as at an interesting musical intersection. The influence of the Hillsong Australia church is evident in the focus on melody and big, powerful choruses. At the same time, much of SHOUT GOD'S FAME sounds more like a Vineyard UK project, with experimental rock elements making their way into the project (a little bit of Robbie Williams on "Gonna Be All Right") at times as well. There are a lot of similarities to the Hillsong United live albums, but even those comparisons only go so far. The mix here, for instance, really put the guitar and percussion more in the fore and pulls the lead vocals back a little bit, which gives the album a feel that is distinctly different from a regular Hillsong project. The team of lead vocalists also has a much more youthful sound to their voices; no one person (a la Darlene Zschech) dominates the album's lead worship duties.

Shout to the Lord 2000

Amazon reader review: This is my favorite worship album-- ever!!! It has the most powerful songs and you can tell that the people at these services are just praising the Lord in full. Some of my favorite songs are People Just Like Us, (He's Real) All the Power You Need, I Will Run to You, Eagle's Wings, The Great Southland, All Things Are Possible, The Potter's Hand, Shout to the Lord, Hear Our Praises, You Said and This is What We Came Here For. Hillsong Music Australia blends some of the best tastes in music on this one album. It has 32 amazing, powerful and beautiful songs on it.

You can feel the energy and the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ on this project. The lyrics on it are so true and listening to the songs make you want to jump up and praise God. My final thought is that this is a great album and if you enjoy up-beat and worshipful music this is for you. From the writer of Shout to the Lord, it's simply the best.

Jesus Is My Super Hero  (February 2005)

The atmosphere was electric as children lifted their hands shouting "Jesus You’re My Superhero!" This was the setting for the recording of the first ever Hillsong worship album for kids as Max, Melody and the Hillsong Kids team led over 1,000 children in worship. What an awesome sight it was to see these children worshiping Jesus and praising Him with excitement and enthusiasm. With 15 songs of energetic praise and beautiful worship, this album will be a blessing to parents and children.
